COMS Services

  • Opacity Observations (Method 9 or 22)
  • Quarterly Opacity Audits
  • Off-Stack Zero Calibrations
  • Troubleshooting
  • Initial Certification or Re-Certifications under Performance Specifications of 40 CFR 60

If you operate a continuous opacity monitoring system (COMS), and you are subject to either:

  1. New Source Performance Standard (NSPS) subpart, or
  2. National Emissions Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPS) subpart

Then you need to perform quarterly COMS filter audits.

You also need to perform an annual or three-year off-stack zero audit and re-calibration.

  • NSPS: Follows EPA Procedure 3 in 40 CFR 60, Appendix F – one or three-year off-stack audit/re-cal.
  • NESHAPS: Does not follow Procedure 3 – follows procedures in specific Subparts. Requires one-year off-stack audit/re-cal.
